L & L Fire and Rescue Co.

In Oct 1945, a group held a meeting at the Laurytown School House to organize a fire company for the Townships of Lehigh and Lausanne. In the months that followed, they held numerous meetings elected officials, formed committees, and purchased our first apparatus for $499.50 and a siren for $175.00. By the beginning of 1946, they had 91 members and had began the Lehigh and Lausanne Fire Co. Decades later, we thank them for their tireless efforts, vision and dedication to L&L and to the residents that we continue to serve and protect.

MINUTES FROM THE FIRST ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING

"On Oct 16, 1945 a meeting was called by Elmer Young with the purpose of organizing a fire co. at Lehigh Twp.

It was decided that a fire co. should be organized, and the following men were elected to serve as officers until Jan 1, 1946

President - Elmer M. Young
Vice President - Francis Zellner
Financial Secretary - H.B. Dotter
Recording Secretary - Ira Truver
Treasurer - Edward Mc Gill
Captain of Police - Howard Swank
Trustees - Clarence Buchman, Michael Hallahan

It was decided that dues should b e paid at the rate of $1.00 per year per member effective until Jan 1, 1946.

The following committee for water survey was appointed by the President. Ed McGill, Wm Gregory, Elmer Miller, R. Slezak, Bob Kibler, F. Zellner. This committee to meet and survey on Oct 21, 1945 and report at the next meeting.

A meeting was called for Oct 23, 1945 for further discussion of business pertaining to newly organized fire co. and to admit members.

The meeting was adjourned by the president."
